Kapsel is the name of this project dedicated to contemporary science fiction from China. It consists of an ongoing exchange in the form of discussions and workshops, as well as publications on the subject. The editorial team – comprising journalist Lukas Dubro, sinologists Felix Meyer zu Venne and Konrad B. Winkler, Germanist Chong Shen, and designer Marius Wenker – translates lesser-known works from the country’s diverse literary scene. Launched as a magazine, the Kapsel crew now also publishes books through publisher MaroVerlag from Augsburg. In 2025, they released the volume Im Ozean ein Mutterschiff (i.e., “A Mothership in the Ocean”) featuring four stories by Gu Shi, and in 2023, four stories by Chi Hui in the volume Das Erbe der Menschheit (i.e., “The Legacy of Humanity”). In 2024, the third edition of the anthology Sechs Geschichten von heute über morgen (i.e., “Six Stories of Today About Tomorrow”) was published, featuring texts by Xia Jia, Regina Kanyu Wang, Chen Qiufan, and others. In October 2026, they will publish the anthology Flüchtige Zeit (i.e., “Fleeting Time”), featuring eight outstanding authors, including Liu Cixin and Han Song.
