Our first recommendation is the Generator Hostel Prenzlauer Berg, a modern hostel for the budget traveler. They also have single and double occupancy rooms.
Hip, sustainable, arty: The Urban Loft in Mitte, just north of the central train station Hauptbahnhof. Catch a bus (line 147 or 120) and walk a short distance, and you’ll be at the venue in 15-20 minutes.
