Please introduce yourself briefly:
My name is Ralf Boldt, and I was born a long time ago in East Frisia. I work as an IT manager in a large hospital in the northwest. I discovered my love for SF at an early age, and the public library in my hometown was very well stocked with fantastic works, even from today’s perspective.
Why are you participating in MetropolCon?
Because I was asked, and I think it’s a unique idea. The team is great. I couldn’t say no.
It’s Saturday night at a convention: Where can you be found?
At first somewhere dismantling and cleaning up, then at the bar.
What do you wish for the future of speculative fiction, especially in Germany?
The courage to publish German texts, not only by the small publishers, but also by the trade publishers, who like to hide these titles in the general series.
Best fictional sidekick of all time?
Jolly Jumper. An ultra-cool horse, and where would Lucky Luke be without him? Utterly lost!
You win a week to a fantastic world of your choice: where to?
Blade Runner is one of my favorite SF works, to be sure. But I wouldn’t want to spend a vacation in that world. I’d rather go to the Star Trek universe.
A work of speculative fiction (book/film/series/game …) that you would recommend to all of us?
I really liked “Billion Dollar” by Andreas Eschbach when it first came out. Currently, I really like the comic “Paper Girls” by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang. It’s one of the few graphic novels where I think the film adaptation is also well-made.
