Bernhard Hennen studied German lit, archaeology, and history at the University of Cologne. During his studies, he worked as a journalist. At the age of 18, he travelled to Nicaragua in the midst of civil war. Further travels took him to the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria, and Ukraine.
In 1993, his first novel (Das Jahr des Greifen, written together with Wolfgang Hohlbein) was awarded the prize for best German fantasy novel.
Bernhard Hennen has published more than 60 historical and fantasy novels, plus short stories and novellas. His books have been translated into 10 languages, sold over 5 million copies worldwide, and spent more than 100 weeks on the bestseller list in Germany.
In 2019, his novel Die Chroniken von Azuhr – Der Verfluchte was awarded the Seraph. In 2024, the album Finsterwacht by the band Saltatio Mortis, on which he collaborated, reached number 1 in the German album charts.
